Day Two on the way to the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous
We awoke at a Walmart in Kansas over night. It really wasn’t all that bad. Pretty fun to take a walk in the store. Neither of us had been in one in many many years. Everything went well, and it was super quiet. We slept like babies. Since we hadn’t seen anyone talk about how they got permission to park at one we decided to give one a call and ask. They said it was cool so we went.
The next morning was great. Waking up in our van at the first place was pure joy. We let the dog out, brushed our teeth and got on the road.
Driving through Kansas is a terrible thing to do. Miles and miles of nothing but wind so as you can imagine driving a giant van through wind can cost a pretty penny. Elissa got us the best mileage of it all. We got 18 miles per gallon.
Once we got into New Mexico the landscape started to change. Flat grassland turned to desert. Trees turned to scrub and rock. The sun set that first night in the desert was simply awe inspiring. It was the perfect end to another day on the road. That night we slept in another Walmart. It was in Las Vegas, New Mexico. We ate at this marvelous little Mexican joint called, “Kocina De Raphaels”. Here’s a link to their page on Yelp. LINK They have really great food, but we were to hungry to get any photos of it. If you are in the area please drop by that place. It’s a hidden gem.
We slept without trouble and headed out the next day.
Next week we arrive at the RTR and you will start to see photos of the rigs and soon some video of Schoolie tours.
Keep the shiny side up.
